PDMA To Be Strengthened, Relief Activities Enhanced: Minister

MULTAN, Dec 6 (Muzaffargarh.City – 06th Dec, 2016 ) : Provincial Minister for Disaster Management Ejaz Ahmad Achlana Tuesday said the Punjab Disaster Management Authority (PDMA) will be strengthened to cope with natural disasters.

He told media persons here that concrete programme had been chalked out to strengthen embankments of all rivers in Punjab to contain any superflood in any part of the province. He said that target of setting up of Rescue 1122 centre would be completed in all tehsils of the district.

Later, its sphere would be extended to other districts as well, he added. He termed disaster management department very important in combating floods, dealing with food shortage situation, extinguishing fires, dealing with emergencies caused by any quake and accident etc.

He said that the capacity of Head Trimon was being increased from 5.5 lakh cusecs to 8.75 lakh cusecs. He said PDMA directorate would be set up in Multan with director-level officer to be designated as in-charge of the office.

He said warehouse existing in Muzaffargarh would be expanded in near future. The minister also announced setting up a paramedical institute in Multan on the recommendation of MPA Rana Tahir Shabir. He instructed DCO Multan to choose suitable for setting up the institution.
