PDMA Ready To Cope With Rains, Floods: DG

LAHORE, (Muzaffargarh.City – 30th Jun, 2017 ) : Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA) Punjab is in close contact with Meteorological Department to obtain the latest information regarding weather conditions on daily basis and cope with any flood-like situation or heavy rains in the province.

PDMA Director General Punjab Mudassar Waheed Malik said this in a statement, here on Friday. He said that 10 meetings of Cabinet Committee on Floods have been conducted so far to ensure preparedness in the wake of possible floods during Monsoon season this year.

He said that in order to deal with any untoward situation like floods, the PDMA Punjab has distributed 764 boats, 764 OBMs, 11,000 life jackets, 4,000 life rings, 13,000 dewatering sets, 48,000 tents, 49,000 plastic mats, 43,000 mosquito nets and 30 generator sets in the flood-prone districts of the province.

He said that all District Disaster Management Authorities (DDMAs) were conducting meetings on regular basis. The PDMA Punjab, in collaboration with different district administrations, has also conducted mock exercises to ensure preparedness in the wake of possible floods.

He said that Fire Audit and Mock Exercise had also been conducted at Muzaffargarh Warehouse of PDMA as a preparedness activity to deal with any unpleasant situation. He said that Punjab Chief Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif also reviewed pre-flood arrangements by the PDMA Punjab and expressed satisfaction over them.
