Pb Govt To Spend Hefty Amount On Clean Water Projects

LAHORE, (Muzaffargarh.City – 24th May, 2019 ) :The Punjab government will spend US$ 600 million to improve the living standard of masses in six cities – Sahiwal, Sialkot, Sargodha, Rahim Yar Khan, Bahawalpur and Muzaffargarh – under Punjab Intermediate Cities Improvement Investment Programme (PICIIP).

The PCIIP sources said on Friday the programme would support different civic up-gradation projects in the identified cities in two phases.

During the first phase programme will support municipal corporations in Sahiwal and Sialkot cities sum of $250 million allocated with the financial assistance of the ADB $ 200 million whereby the Punjab government will provide $ 50 million, the sources added.

As per details, Punjab Intermediate Cities Improvement Investment Programme (PICIIP) is aimed to improve the efficiency of municipal corporation in term of civic services including water supply, sanitation, sewerage treatment, solid waste management and transport infrastructure.

The sources further said that approval was sought for potable-water supply schemes for Sahiwal city, in this regard the NESPAK would work with collaboration of Punjab Intermediate Cities Improvement Investment Programme who has designed 25-year ‘Master Plan’ in this regard.

The sources further said that through the implementation of master plan in next three years is aimed at providing clean and contamination-free drinking water to the residents of Sahiwal city round the clock.

After execution of the project the Sahiwal would become the first ever city, having clean and safe drinking water by Punjab Intermediate Cities Improvement Investment Programme (PICIIP), sources confirmed.
