Call For Check On Private Nurseries
MULTAN, (Muzaffargarh.City – 19th Apr, 2017 ) : Sale of low quality fruit plants at private nurseries goes unchecked in different parts of city, which not only cause financial loss to farmers but also to agriculture sector as well.
Farmers pin high hopes when they plant saplings especially mangoes, in their agricultural fields but they get frustrated as the bud-woods did not prove true type/variety at mature stage of plant.
There should be a strict check on nurseries sale points, stated Assistant Director Horticulture, Fruit and Vegetables Muhammad Akram while talking to APP, here on Wednesday. There were scores of nurseries sale points in the city and only 10 nurseries were registered with Agriculture Department,he added.
He said that nurseries registration process was free of cost, and workers at nurseries were also imparted special training.
Similarly, nursery owners also availed facility of free of cost consultancy, he said.
He stated that some shopkeepers used to sell such varieties which had mal-formation characteristics. A farmer nurtures plants for many years with hope that he will earn handsome amount from the plants but faces frustration due to malformation characteristics of plants.
Muhammad Akram added that government was also providing bud-woods to growers free of cost and over 2000 bud-woods of different varieties of mangoes including Chaunsa Summer, White Chaunsa, Sindhri, Black Chaunsa, Dosehri, and Rattaywala have been distributed in Multan, Rahim Yar Khan, Khanewal and Muzaffargarh.
He urged growers to contact government nurseries for gaining quality bud-woods as government nurseries have disease-free and true type of varieties.
