Teams Sent To Indus, Chenab Rivers To Check Migratory Birds’ Hunting

MULTAN, (Muzaffargarh.City – 27th Feb, 2018 ) ::Three teams of Wildlife department Dera Ghazi Khan and a team of Wildlife department Multan have been sent to areas around Indus and Chenab rivers to check the illegal hunting of migratory birds.

The teams were formed after receiving complaints that poachers were roaming about the riverine areas and hunting migratory birds in parts of Muzaffargarh as the birds take a nap at pond during their flight back to Siberia, the Divisional Wildlife Officer Multan, Sajjad Hussain said.

He was also holding the additional charge of DG Khan but now formally transferred to DG Khan and waiting for his replacement to hand over the charge of Multan. The migratory birds reach wetlands, ponds in Pakistan to escape the freezing winter season of Siberia every year and return to their homeland with the conclusion of winter season.

The winter season is about to end and stay of migratory birds in Pakistan would last only a week or ten days, Sajjad said adding that they are now flying back to Siberia and poachers hunt them when they land at any wetland to take a nap and to feed on the vegetation.

A team of wildlife inspector and other officials has started checking water locations around Indus river from Taunsa barrage to downstream Muzaffargarh from last Monday. Wildlife department Rajanpur team has started patrolling Indus river areas from Jampur to Kot Chutta, DG Khan team from Ghazi Ghat to Shah Sadar Deen and Kachchi canal from today (Tuesday), Sajjad said adding that another team of Wildlife department Multan would patrol water locations like ponds in areas around river Chenab.
