MULTAN, (Muzaffargarh.City – 13th Nov, 2018 ) :As many as 679 cases of electricity theft were detected in south Punjab during a joint operation led by MEPCO, police and district administration.
According to official sources, fine of Rs 22.1 million was imposed on the electricity pilferers and FIRs were registered against 61 persons. The teams also arrested 33 pilferers during the first 10 days of November.
In Multan, 142 electricity thieves were fined of Rs 7.5 million. Similarly, Rs 300,000 fine was imposed on 15 pilferers in district Lodharan. In district Vehari, the teams traced 49 power pilferers and imposed fine of Rs 1.
5 million on them. The task force caught another 38 electricity thieves in district Khanewal and imposed fine of Rs 1.3 million on them. A fine of Rs 1.2 million was recovered from 78 pilferers in DG Khan, Rs 400,000 from district Layyah wherein 10 thieves were traced.
The official sources added that 75 thieves in Rajanpur, 77 in Muzaffargarh, 32 in Bahawalpur, 46 in Bahawalnagar, 17 in Sahiwal and 14 electricity pilferers were nabbed in district Pakpattan and they were fined of Rs 5.9 million.
