USAID Celebrates Independence Day With Pakistan Skilled Youth

MULTAN, (Muzaffargarh.City – 16th Aug, 2018 ) :The USAID and Punjab Youth Workforce Development (PYWD) Project organized a colourful event at Vocational Training Institute (VTI) with active participation from skilled youth to celebrate the Independence Day here Thursday.

Chaired by Deputy Commissioner Mudassir Riaz Malik, the event also focused on international youth day and the participants discussed opportunities for creating healthy and safe spaces for youth.

USAID-PYWD Chief of Party and DC Multan signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to join hands together in supporting district government’s green, clean and safe Multan campaign, community-based small infrastructure schemes and vocational training at Santzar. They jointly cut the cake and planted a tree in the VTI. Students sang national songs and participated in tableaus.

The event also showcased the PYWD project’s efforts geared towards strengthening partnerships with the district government, training providers and public-private sector employers to jointly transform the lives of its focused youth and their families, through skills-based training (both technical and soft), self- employment and placement opportunities.

Speaking on the occasion, DC Mudassir Riaz Malik urged the youth to re-build their future through formal education and skills-based training. He appreciated the role, USAID-PYWD Project was playing through the support of technical and vocational training providers to harness the potential of youth in south Punjab districts of Bahawalpur, Lodhran, Multan and Muzaffargarh. The DC promised full support to maximize the efforts of USAID-PYWD project.

The Chief of Party USAID-PYWD project congratulated the participants on Pakistan’s Independence Day.

Speaking with reference to International Youth Day 2018, human rights activist Zuhra Zaidi, Rizwan Maqbool and Zahida Hameed talked about how to create safe spaces for Pakistan’s talented youth.

The USAID-PYWD Project’s skills-based training are transforming the livelihoods of 10,000 youth ageing 16-29, 35 per cent of them women, in south Punjab districts.

Qaisar Nadeem, the COP PYWD Project, presented souvenir to Mudassir Riaz Malik, Deputy Commissioner Multan, and other guests.
