MULTAN, (Muzaffargarh.City – 09th Jan, 2018 ) :Director General Water Management Malik Muhammad Akram said on Tuesday that sprinkler irrigation system was being installed in rain-fed areas of Thal on experimental basis to enable farmers combat weather changes after the area did not receive rain on time affecting growth of gram crop.
Initially the sprinkler system was being installed on 1700 acre area and the government was providing 75 per cent subsidy, says an official release issued here. Gram is cultivated at a large scale in Bakhar, Layyah, Khushab, Muzaffargarh, Jhang and Mianwali and farmers solely rely on rains for its irrigation in the absence of regular canal irrigation system.
However, due to sudden change in weather behavior, Thal did not receive rain on time that was affecting the growth of gram crop. The project was aimed at enabling farmers successfully survive amid weather changes. Farmers would also provided technical training to run the sprinkler irrigation system in addition to 75 per cent subsidy, Malik Akram said.
