SC Seeks Report On Auqaf Dept Punjab’s Occupied Land

ISLAMABAD, Feb 8 (Muzaffargarh.City – 08th Feb, 2017 ) : The Supreme Court Tuesday sought a progress report from the Punjab government over alleged occupation of thousands kanal land of Auqaf & Religious Affairs Department by other government departments.

A two-judge bench comprising of Justice Ijaz Afzal Khan and Iustice Ijaz ul Hassan resumed hearing of the suo-moto notice regarding illegal occupation Auqaf Department’s land in Muzaffargarh, which was donated by Sardar Kory Khan Trust.

Additional Advocate General Punjab Abdul Razzaq A Mirza apprised the court that in compliance with court’s earlier orders, a meeting of all the stakeholders was held on January 14.

He said the District Coordination Officer Muzaffargarh had issued notices to ten departments to vacate the Auqaf property, however, their replies were yet awaited.

Any action would be taken after receiving reply from the departments, he added. Mirza informed the court that a joint account was opened in which rental income from the Auqaf property would be deposited and be used for the betterment of area.

The bench asked the AAG about the present income of the department. The AAG sought time for provision of the information. The case was adjourned for one month.
