LAHORE, (Muzaffargarh.City – 13th May, 2019 ) :As many as 1,838 food stalls in 94 Ramazan bazaars were inspected by the food safety teams of Punjab Food Authority (PFA) and 114 improvement notices were served on the food outlets.
PFA Director General Captain (retd) Muhammad Usman said here Monday that the teams visited 43 makeshift markets in Lahore Zone, 29 in Rawalpindi, 17 in Multan and five in Muzaffargarh Zone. So far, the PFA had checked 13,274 small and big stalls in the first seven days of the holy month, he added.
During the inspection, he mentioned, the authority discarded 172kg inferior quality fruit and 226kg rotten vegetables.
Meanwhile, the food safety teams warned 114 food outlets, directing them to improve their hygienic conditions.
Muhammad Usman said that the food authority was checking Ramazan bazaars on regular basis to ensure provision of safe and healthy food to people. He said that the PFA, in collaboration with the administrations concerned, was making all-out efforts in this connection.
He requested people to inform the PFA about the presence of poor quality food at stalls. The PFA is checking the open markets round-the-clock besides Ramazan bazaars, and the number of inspection teams have been increased for the purpose.
