LAHORE, (Muzaffargarh.City – 12th Apr, 2019 ) :Punjab Agriculture Minister Malik Nauman Ahmad Langrial said Friday that this year cotton would be cultivated on above 5,500,000 acres of land and all possible resources were being utilized to meet this target.
According to a press release issued here, the minister said this while presiding over a maiden meeting of Cotton Crop Management Group at Central Cotton Research Institute (CCRI).
He said the government was following zero tolerance policy to ensure the provision of quality fertilizers and agricultural medicines to the farmers.
It was being ensured to stop the sale of illegal and unapproved seeds of cotton and all possible steps would be taken to achieve 15 million cotton bales, he maintained.
Punjab Agriculture Secretary Wasif Khursheed said that increase in the yield of cotton was among the priorities of the Punjab government as country’s economy was very much dependent on cotton.
He said this year for 100,000 acres of land high yielding cotton seed was being provided on subsidy.
He said farmers of Multan, Khanewal, Lodhran, Vehari, Bahawalnagar, Bahawalpur, RY Khan, DG Khan, Layyah, Muzaffargarh and Rajanpur were being given a subsidy of Rs 1000 on each bag of approved varieties of cotton seed.
The secretary said that Punjab Agriculture Department was standing with farmers with all its resources to deal with challenges.
