MULTAN, (Muzaffargarh.City – 18th Jan, 2017 ) : The Ministry of Textile Industry in collaboration with the Pakistan Central Cotton Committee (PCCC) launched a programme from Khanewal on Wednesday to enable agriculture field officers work as master trainers to guide farmers to increase cotton production in 2017-18 season.
Dr Muhammad Naveed, the head of Entomology wing of Central Cotton Research Institute (CCRI) Multan and head of Transfer of Technology, gave a detailed briefing through multi-media and delivered lectures to field officers of Khanewal on what should they do during off-season to keep Mealy Bug and Pink Bollworm away during the active cotton season, says an official release.
Junaid Ahmad Khan Daha, the scientific officer Cotton Research Station Sahiwal, would also contribute in the training programmes.
These training programmes would be held in all the cotton producing districts of Punjab, including Khanewal, Sahiwal, Vehari, Bahawalnagar, Bahawalpur, Lodhran, Multan, Bakhar, Muzaffargarh, Layyah, Dera Ghazi Khan, Rajanpur, and Rahimyar Khan.
As per instructions from the Textile Industry Ministry and Agriculture Department Punjab, Cotton Commissioner Dr Khalid Abdullah, DG Agriculture Extension Punjab Dr Anjum Ali, and Dr Naveed have developed a 24-point strategy to be pursued during off-season so that Mealy Bug and Pink Bollworm do not hurt cotton crop once the cotton season arrives.
