1st Phase Of Population Census Concludes In 63 Districts

ISLAMABAD, (Muzaffargarh.City – 14th Apr, 2017 ) : The first phase of the 6th Population Census, which had begun on March 15, concluded in 63 districts across the country The census during the first phase was conducted in sixteen (16) districts of Punjab province, Eight (8) districts of Sindh, fourteen (14) districts of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, fifteen (15) districts of Balochistan, five (5) districts of Azad Jammu and Kashmir and five (5) districts of Gilgit Baltistan, officials sources said.

The census districts which were covered during the phase in Punjab during the first phase of census include Jhang, Chiniot, Faisalabad, Toba Tek Singh, Dera Ghazi Khan, Rajanpur, Layyah, Muzaffargarh, Lahore, Hafizabad, Narrowal, Sialkot, Vehari, Bahawalpur, Pakpattan, Attock.

Likewise, in Sindh provinces, the headcount was held in districts of Karachi West, Karachi South, Karachi East Korengi, Karachi Central, Malir, Hyderabad and Ghotki. In Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, the districts where the census took place included, Peshawar, Mardan, Swabi, Charsadda, Nowshera, Laki Marwat, Dera Ismail Khan, Hangu, Abbotabad, Haripur, Mansehra, Battagram, Turghar and Orakzai Agency.

While in Balochistan the districts included Awaran, Quetta, Lesbela, Dera Bughti, Kohlu, Musakhel, Washuq, Kharan, Kalat, Jafarabad, Naseerabad, Pishin, Noshki and Lehri.

However, in Turbat, the census was scheduled to be held in both the phases of the census exercise.

In Azad Jammu and Kashmir, the first phase of census was conducted in Muzaffarabad, Bagh, Sudhnoti, Kotli and Bhimber. Similalry, in Gilgit Baltistan, the census was conducted in Gilgit, Baltistan, Ghanche, Nagar and Ghizer districts.

The second phase of the census would start from April 25 during which headcount would be conducted in remaining 88 districts all across the country. It is pertinent to mention here that as many as 84,000 enumerators are taking part in the exercise to collect data from 168,120 census blocks across the country.

The Bureau has reserved about ten percent staff and supervisors, hence bringing the total staff for census to over 118,000 persons. In addition to enumerators, 200,000 army personnel are engaged for the exercise, they said adding one army soldier is attached with one enumerator.

The Bureau has also established a helpline to provide assistance and access to people to inform in case they were not counted in the census, the sources added.
